Post why am I facing problems with internet connectivity?

I had a strange problem.Recently, I virtualized (XEN) my RHEL 5 system by installing Fedora 8 as guest operating system. The installation went fine. But, after installation my internet connection stopped working. Any suggestions?. I was on TataIndicom wireless USB modem. I haven't had any problems with internet connectivity before virtualizing. I use KPPP to connect to internet. when I see the detials of the connection, I could actually see bytes coming in but not going out.. I haven't modified any of the internet connectivity settings after virtualizing.

fedora has been known for problems in a virtual env.

AND why did you install fedora in a vert.env. on red hat

they work fine side by side as a dual boot .
and for the most part they are the same os / very similar os's

A good suggestion would have to use a more less similar distro like Debian that way as John described they are painfully similar.
Just to be sure go through this link and see if you missed a step in the process

Red hat 5.2 is very close to fedora 6 and 7 , share almost all the same code and most rpm's for rh work in fedora and visa-versa .

Hi

I could figure out the source of the problem. When I installed fedora 8 (the guest), I specified a gateway IP address where I don't have a gateway coz Im connected to Internet directly (not thru gateway). I had to remove the Gateway entry from host operating system coz that's where I connect to internet from. I still dont understand how come the entry appeared with host o/s when I actually specified gateway when I install guest.

Im preparing for RHCE certification exam. So, I wanted to practice few server configurations on my laptop. As I dont have more than one system available, I can't have LAN setup. Virtualization is the only way of running more than one o/s simultaneously so that I can configure the server on host o/s and client on guest o/s vice versa. I can't achieve this with dual boot where I can run only one O/S at any particular instance.

Anyway, thanks for ur replies guys..

well you are on a laptop so that kills one posable fix .But it may??? still work
in services turn off "NetworkManager" and turn on "Network" for run level 3,5
see: Services in Fedora 8
