why am i able to ping hosts on my LAN except my router

i have just installed fedora core 6 [dual-boot with windows] and want to connect to the internet through my Router [D-Link 802.11g/2.4Ghz wireless router]. at present, i have 2 other PCs [OS: windows xp] connected to the internet using this router. the router also acts as a dhcp server and dynamically assigns IP addresses to the hosts connected.

when i connected fedora to my network, an IP address was assigned. the problem is that whenever i try to ping the router, it gives me "Destination Host Unreachable". Though at the same time, i am able to ping my other [windows based] PCs and vice versa!!! what also bothers me is that the router gave me an IP address so why cannot i ping the router??

so im stuck with a "unique" problem and would be very grateful if someone could help me out.

Hi, try look to your route table, if is correct and also check, if you give right IP address from DHCP server and if you havent firewall on the D-Link router

thanks for the quick reply but no luck. im getting the correct ip from the router. and i have diabled the firewall [just to check if it works, but no luck as well].

i was reading some ebooks and i think there might be a filter settings issue, since i am able to ping my other hosts [because of the inbuilt switch] and not the router. guess the problem is not so unique afterall! lol.

i'l check all the settings and inform you soon. once again, thanks for your help.

i got it working!

i made a backup of my current router configuration and re-configured the entire router configuration.

after simple basic configurations [setting ip, adding PPPoE settings, etc], i tested the ping, and i got the reply! i was then able to login to my router's configuration page over firefox. logically, i was also able to connect to the internet. guess it was some filter settings blocking fedora access to the router! heh heh. after that, i did more configurations [such as enabling firewall, MAC and IP filters] and still got my fedora connected to the internet.

now i gotta try connecting to my router through wireless but thats a different story [i gonna try it out myself first!]. thank you all for the help. greatly appreciated.
