Question Which mail server do you recommend?

Hi,

I have to find and set up Mail Server.
Which one do you recommend?
Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

The requirements are:
1. Easy-to-use Administration tool.
2. POP3 and IMAP support.
3. SMTP Authentication support.
4. Anti virus and spam.
5. Easy configuration.

I hear is Qmail easy to use. I'm currently running Postfix and it seemed easy enough to setup.

I am currently using Postfix with SASL authentication,

combined with Cyrus Imapd, which supports imap and pop, and uses the SASL method to authenticate a user.

SASL can use the system pam system to authenticate, making it rather flat. creating a user allows him to send mail too..
It could though be bound to any authentication method (LDAP could be an option perhaps).

It works like a charm on my Fedora Core 3 ... I don't have experience with other mail systems though..

Cheers,

Thank you for the information, everybody!

For Postfix and Qmail, which POP3 and IMAP servers are easy to configure?
Which ones do you recommend?

Is Cyrus easy to configure?

Hi,

I've found that Fedora Core 3 has PostFix, Berkeley DB, and Cyrus.
But where are they installed?
The locations described in the corresponding web sites don't contain anything.

Thank you in advance.

exim and postfix seem to be the nicest to configure, then qmail, and way back after that, sendmail. i love exim personally.

I use qmail on all my systems. It's very stable and very quick if you're processing large amounts of mail (it was written with that in mind). It has a reward for security issues, which I believe has so far gone unclaimed.

lots of info here:
www.qmail.org
and here
www.lifewithqmail.org

the second site includes installation instructions.
