Where is 'net' command for Samba3?

Hello,

being a newbie for Linux, I am trying to put together a Samba3 PDC on Mandrake 9.2 serving Win2k/XP PCs. While reading the Samba3 doc (Samba3 by example, Small office networking, example 2.1 Script to Map Windows NT Groups to UNIX Groups) and testing the commands, I stopped at the 'net' command, since my Linux cannot find the 'net' command (nor can another RedHat 9 server I tried to install to test if my Mandrake is wrong). However, I saw the same 'net' command being executed on somebody else's same Mandrake 9.2.

So could you pls help me what difference could cause the 'net' command missing on a PC and what to do in order to make it available. Many thanks in advance.

Les

look in /usr/bin for "net3" ....if it's there you can create a symlink to it for net (ln -s /usr/bin/net3 /usr/bin/net) or just use the "net3" command...

Hi Zeos,

thanks, found 'net3' under /usr/bin.

Another question if I may: how to replace (upgrade) Samba 2.x coming originally with Mandrake to Samba 3? It says that it installs parallel to Samba 2 and hence the version number in 'net3' I guess. Or is it the normal way (i.e. your advice to create a symlink) when you upgrade?

To be honest here, I'm not at all familiar with doing things with mandrake and the "mandrake way" so I really can't offer much in the way of useful advice (distro-specific)...Maybe check with the mandrake/mandriva forums for something specific to your distro (though, I suspect pulling the 2.x rpms and loading the 3.x ones would be sufficient)
