Where do pages for website go on server

OK, this questions might seem basic but, I am trying to set-up a web server and I have everything set up on the server side, but now where do I put the index.html page and other related pages, pics, etc? If I use Drupal will this change anything?

If you're using Debian, than you have to put your index.html into /var/www but you have to edit your /etc/apache2/sites-available/default and delete the line, which begins with 'RedirectMatch' in the '<Directory /var/www>' block.

If you use Drupal, than you have to manage your pictures with the drupal filemanager and than you can integrate the images into your texts. Or you can copy the images somewhere into /var/www/ (making a subfolder could be useful ) and than you can integrate the images into your texts.

the default webroot is usually /var/www or /var/www/html
and you best make a sub-folder in your webroot for your pics.

you can allway's take a look at /etc/httpd.conf where your webroot is located.

if you can't find the conf file there do "find / -name 'httpd.conf'

hope this helps.
