wget + behind proxy with username and password

I tried this

Code:

export http_proxy="http://username:p#ssword@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080"
and then

Code:

[root@localhost crosstool-0.43]# wget http://kegel.com/crosstool/crosstool-0.43.tar.gz
Error parsing proxy URL http://username:p#ssword@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080": Bad port number.

I am behind a proxy and by just googling i came to know the username and password should be provided along with the port number.I took the same data from my firefox and tried but i got that error msg,..is my syntax correct? or any other mistakes?

You can try to specify user and passwd in the wget command line by means of the proper options:
Code:

export http_proxy="http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080"
wget --proxy-user=username --proxy-password=password http://kegel.com/crosstool/crosstool-0.43.tar.gz
