web,ftp server behind a router

hello all, first of i will show you my settings.

ADSL(pppoe)(global IP unknown) --> IP sharing device (router)(192.168.1.1) --> 3 computers(2 linux , 1 windows)(192.168.21/22/23)

i use my router's settings to dial and access the internet and set it to DHCP server so that the 2 computers(22/23) can obtain their own IP's. I manually set a static IP for the first computer(21) with linux apache and proftpd. I also setup the DMZ host forward to (192.168.1.21) so that I can have a web server, but it didnt work, everytime I enter the global IP(I recieve from the ISP when I connect using pppoe) to the browser it just shows me the IP SHARING DEVICE setup page instead of the webserver on 192.168.1.21(1st computer) web serve. so I tried using virtual server and manually enterd the ports 80 and 21 for incoming and outgoing, same thing happens, it shows me to the IP sharing device setup page. i tried using ftp to connect and nothing happens... when I ping the global IP i get a reply... pls help me if you need more info ill post it.. thanks.

You will probably need to use the internl ip within your lan but the external IP outwith your lan - to test from outside your lan, use a web proxy like guardster:

There are two things I want to mention.

1. not all router are created equal, some router check traffic from both direction, and some cheaper router only check it from the internet side, but not from lan. If you got the second kind, you have to use the private IP when you are inside the lan.

2. try port forwarding instead of DMZ on the router for 2 reason, (a) security and (b) it works differently from DMZ. If that doesn't work, you know you got the second kind of the router mention above.
