want to make linux server

I have small network of win2kserver.Now for some reason,i want to make linux machine to play a role of server. I have (Redhat, debian and suse). I have a little experience like 6 month with linux using as a desktop. Now,as I have never set up linux as a server I am trying to find out where to start? What file should I configure first to create a domain? Can anyone guide me just to setup domain and share the internet connection through linux box? Thanks in advance.

I know this seems like a lot of work but the best way to do it is to RTFM,
