Smile vsftpd to authenticate ftp user

Hi,
I've been trying to use ftp://usernameassword@servername for users of my server to login to their home directory. I use vsftpd and Red Hat Linux 8.0. I have gone through all possibilities including, modifying vsftpd.conf to chroot to anything imaginable. But everytime I try to use ftp://usernameassword@servername from other computers in the network(I'm talking about my school network) in the address bar, it refuses the password all the time. Help !

check /var/log/secure (or /var/log/vsftpd.log) for related messages.

what ftp client are u using? from a windows machine, open a DOS command prompt and run this:

ftp servername

from iexplorer, you can just use this:

ftp://username@servername

and it will automatically prompt your for your password. you can try posting your vsftpd.conf file (remove the comments pls) so we can trace the cause.

i ftp server is red hat linux 8.0 based vsftpd. as for client, what i'm trying to do is that users can login to my ftp server from a webpage, i.e. http://localhost in my server. Basically user directory will be displayed in browser of the client with the following address: ftp://usernameassword@myservername .Below is my vsftpd.conf file:-
anonymous_enable=YES
ftp_username=guest
local_enable=YES
write_enable=YES
local_umask=022
dirmessage_enable=YES
ftpd_banner = All Files Are For Educ/Rsrch Purpose Only
xferlog_enable=YES
connect_from_port_20=YES
xferlog_std_format=YES
ftpd_banner=Welcome to blah FTP service. Files should be used for educational/research purpose only.
chroot_list_enable=YES
chroot_list_file=/etc/vsftpd.chroot_list
chroot_local_user=YES
passwd_chroot_enable=YES
pam_service_name=vsftpd
