Vsftp - Sligh Config help

Hiya,

I am having a slight config problem with Vsftpd, and was wondering if anyone can help me.

I have my server set up as I want it, and no problms so far.

I have one public account that people can use, however.

I would like to be able to set up varous accounts.

a coupld for users that can ALLWAYS login, no matter how many users are online (Ie. myself)

and another with a anon access, but can only view the FTP but not upload or download anything.

I enclose my vsftpd.conf for anyone that can help

Code:

# loosens things up a bit, to make the ftp daemon more usable.

# Allow anonymous FTP?

If anyone can help I would be a very happy chappy.

As for view without download, do you mean they can only see the filename?

Are you only going to allow them to a specivifc folder(/var/ftp/)? About the anonymous user, you can create a user account. Then, chmod all the file in the ftp folder to wrxwrx--- or however you want.

You might be able to create a script which reads from the log files about how many users are logged in. Maybe create a list of usernames with "rank". If there are too many users logged on, maybe send them a warning which will tell them they have <insert number here> <unit of time here>('s) before being kicked off.

Of course, I don't know the advanced features of vsftpd, but a shell script/program can be usable.

I just want something that is kinda simple.

things like glftpd ad wuftps apear to allow me to do it, but I cant get my head around glftpd's config file and wuftpd screws up on the compile ;(

My ftp directory is

/home/ftproot/

I have one user at the moment and that is insanes:FTPs3rs3v

now that user can login and upload / download via ftproot/

But I want to be able to creat custom user accounts (namely for myself) so when the FTP is full (421) i can still login via it and use it.

I also want to creat a anon account so they can view everything in the /home/ftproot/ directory, but not download or upload anything.

as I said glftpd does all of this, but its a nightmare to set up and there is absolutly no support for it (same as wuftp as I can fnd) so I am stuck with this, unless some kind soul is a gl / wu ftpd expert and wants to help :D

If you want simple, go to windows. I'm sure some vsftp guru could help you without a script.

I think you can only do that if you kick some user off.

As for the anon, create the user and make him in a new group. Chmod all of the files with the last digit being 0 (ie. chmod 770). Cause the anon user isn't the owner or in the group, they'll only be able to see the file.

For all the other users, you can "jail" them to the directory so they can't be snooping around ur files.

Edit: If you want to switch to a different program, make sure you read the directions. Sometimes, you will have to change some #def's and #undef
