VPN Proxy

Hello people,
I have a Linux SuSE 8.1 Pro. server (squid, httpd, ftpd, etc.) this is the only computer that is connected to the internet and all other are routed through it.
My problem is that my father needs to VPN through the server and out to work, he is able to surf the web with his laptop but not VPN through it.

Please help, I don't know why it doesn't work whether its due to a missing protocol or firewall blockade or a VPN proxy to need be installed.
I've done a lot of reading but nothing really helps.

Thank you!

1.) Do "all other" computers surf exclusively through your Squid box?
2.) Are "all other" computers able to use your SuSE box as a gateway for other connections besides http and ftp?
3.) Is your SuSE box configured for NAT/ipforward?

If I'm not mistaken, PoPToP and IPsec require a public IP. To troubleshoot, connect your father's laptop in place of your SuSE box (you didn't mention what internet connection you have) in such a way that you are getting an external IP from your ISP (DHCP or static?).
