VPN problem

I have a Ubuntu 6.10 PPTP server and few clients with private IP addresses which connect to it automatic if the connection has died. Sometimes they can't connect for unknown reason. So I have to stop pptpd daemon for 5 minutes and after they connect.
Do you have any ideas why this happens?
