vpn pptp


Im using a pptp tunnel to a anonymous server and when i connect in windows and surf the web it doesnt show that im using a tunnel/proxy but when I connect in linux the sites know im using a proxy???

a little follow up, this isnt just on my present system Ive seen this on another computer with a different distro but connected to the same vpn server. For example I cant connect to www.grc.com when using vpn on linux but no problem on windows. Any ideas??

It probably has to do with the way Internet traffic is being routed on the machine. I believe by default Windows routes all regular internet traffic that does not use resources on the remote network outside of the tunnel, but Linux by default send everything through the tunnel and then it goes to the Internet from the remote network.

is there a fix for this? One of the points of using an anonymous server is to be totally anonymous....that is the sites dont know you are using an anonymous server and cant filter you out that way.
