Unhappy VPN connections fail on ubuntu 10.0.4

Good day

I am trying to find someone that can perhaps assist me with the following.

I have installed my notebook with Ubuntu 10.0.4 and need to setup various VPN connections to clients.

After setting up the microsoft VPN connections according to the normal procedures, I try to connect to one of the clients to test connectivity, but the connection fails.

This happens for all the MS vpn's so far.

I had a look at the daemon.log file and found the following message which I can't seem to find a solution to:

<WARN> connection_state_changed(): Could not process the request because no VPN connection was active.

Is there anyone that could perhpas assist me with this as I am not able to work without VPN.

I would really appreciate the assistance.

Regards

What kind of VPN?

What kind of VPN is this? Is it PPTP or L2TP/IPSEC?

I have no idea, I do not have that kind of knowledge. I have however set up the pptp connection and this is what is failing, however I am not sure if this is the correct setup or not as this is simply the default that was used.

So is this your work VPN? It's going to be rather difficult to determine why your connection is failing without know exactly what kind of VPN we are dealing with. If this is your work VPN they might have provided you with some information about how to set it up on a windows machine, or they may have provided you with client software.

Since you mentioned that you've already setup a PPTP connection then I can only assume that your using a PPTP VPN if it's a VPN you didn't setup or configure then it's most likely a Microsoft ISA solution which may require CHAP and other special paramaters. PPTP connections are pretty easy to setup on the client end. Do you have the PPTP software installed?

I've found a very good walkthrough for you at a website that I'm on quite frequently
please check it out and see if this can get you started with setting up a PPTP VPN client connection
