volume accounting

Hi Guys!

I switched from a modem flat rate to 256KBit cable
with a 5 GB limit a month ...

Now I want to be able to do traffic accounting, either
by user name (if it's from the server itself) or by IP (if it's
from one of the three other machines on my home network).

Is there a (free/gpl'ed) software package that can easily
be setup on the server to accomplish this, and what's its
name, where can I find it? :)

Cheers,
Tink

There are many options, especially those available at sourceforge. The easiest to set up is probably the mod_accounting for apache.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/mod-acct/

There are others, just do a search on sourceforge.

Hi Wolven,

and thanks for the reply ... I found two things,
ipac-ng and ip_accountant, that I will evaluate
for now :)

The thing you recommended isn't exactly what I am
looking for, I think :} ...

I need to be able to stop a persons net access towards
the *outside* world when they exceeded their ratio, in
other words: get the kids off the net when they d/led
their share because I don't want to pay penalty fees.

Cheers,
Tink
