vodafone 3G card only connects at gprs speeds.

Hi There.

I have an acer travelmate 250 which is running mandriva 2006.0. I got the the 3G card setup as well as kppp. I get a connection but its only gprs speeds. I tried the commands from this site:

http://www.pharscape.org/content/view/24/53/

If I type:

AT_OPSYS=5 #Automatic – let V3G decide on the terminal.

The terminal returned: command not supported.

I real need to connect at 3G speeds. I would prefer to setup the card so that 3G speed is the first option then GPRS second.

CARD DETAILS.

P: Vendor=12d1 ProdID=1001 Rev= 0.00
S: Manufacturer=HUAWEI Technologies

Thanks in advance.

Not sure about the coverage in South Africa but here not everywhere is a 3G zone. You still get reception and can connect but only at GPRS speed, most mobiles will identify what zone you're in and will let you know if it supports high-speed connections or not.

Could this be your problem?

Nope, coverage is good especialy JHB South Africa.
What I want to do is get the actual card settings to have 3G as the first network option then it have it fall over to GPRS.
