vnc visualizes empty desktop

I'm using ubuntu dapper drake 6-06 and vncserver, from my computer and from another computer inside my lan I type
Code:
vncviewer -fullscreen 192.168.0.5:1
And I get to see a Desktop which however has a grey Desktop background and an open root shell... nothing else.. that means I get the same functionalities of an ssh connection.. nothing more!!!
Any ideas.. I had the same problem also with the previous kubuntu breezy.. and I couldn't solve it!!!

help please.. I have no idea what's going on"!""

If you started vncserver as user rinonapo, the file is in /home/rinonapo/.vnc/xstartup

ok thanks... I discovered the .vnc folder was under root because the server ran a s root
after some tampering I modified my /home/user/.vnc/xstartup like

Code:
#!/bin/sh

# Uncomment the following two lines for normal desktop:
 unset SESSION_MANAGER
 exec gnome-session &

[ -x /etc/vnc/xstartup ] && exec /etc/vnc/xstartup
[ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
#xsetroot -solid grey
#vncconfig -iconic &
#xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
#exec gnome-session &
now it works thanks
