VNC Viewer

Ok I got a problem, I'm running Mandrake 10.1 on one computer and Windows Xp on the other they both run through a Linksys router and I want to connect to the Mandrake PC from the Windows PC. I'm running x0rfbserver on the Mandrake PC and I'm trying to view it using VNCViewer. Here is where the problem is though. When I try to connect using the network ip 192.168.1.xxx it works fine but when I try to connect using my IP it says connection failed. How can I fix this? I already forwarded the 5900 port.

Have you tried to vnc from an external IP ?

Some router seems to prevent connection to the public IP address of itself from the LAN side of the network...

I got it working, I'm not sure how though. I forwarded all ports and it worked so I narrowed it down to the exact port. It was 5900 which I already had forwarded, somehow thoughit worked this time.

you can use netstat --tcp -n in linux to show what other ports are being used for the vnc connection to winxp pc. In my case, I found that port 5901 is also used.

If you forward all port to the winxp Pc, it is potentially dangerous....
