VNC over Putty "Network Error: Software Caused Connection abort"

I have VISTA OS on my friend's Laptop which I don't use for any thing, except have putty on it to connect remotely over Internet to my Fedora6 machine which is at my house, It worked very well and suddenly it started throwing this error of "Network Error: SOftware Caused Connection abort"

This seems to be prominant as soon as I open up the VNC client to tunnel in via the SSH connection, it asks me for the VNC password and after that it just get disconnected along with the Putty session, When I try to reconnect I am able to reconnect.

I don't think that this has got something to do with the ISP, as my VNC is getting tunneled through the Encrypted SSH session. I am scratching my head trying to figure out what has gone wrong with my box suddenly :-(

I was searching through the forum and found that this one closly matched, however it did not solve my problem

I get that error intermittenly. It can just mean that your home internet connection dropped. If you can still connect then it means your settings are fine. Maybe just restart the VNC server service.

Now I have isolated the error, I have another friend who is running XP and when I connect from that laptop via Putty and VNC, it is connecting and does not disconnect, I am having trouble with that trouble some VISA :-( I know that this name is not even worth mentioning here.

I am having the same issue. However, i am simply doing ssh via putty from XP to a linux box. I have other users for the same box and their logins are fine. The only difference is that they use Anzio. I also tried Anzio and it just die after i enter my login info. I have other linux servers and my logins are fine with putty. Issue is same with sftp ( i guess sftp uses ssh as well).

I also tried to enable keepalive in putty but no luck!
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

My login issue has been resolved. I used the command faillog -r <userid> as root. It was the fail login attempts exceed issue, however; it’s still a mystery because my last successful login (which was 20 minutes ago since I was having this issue) has no failure attempts. Not sure if the counter sets by an accumulated failure attempts...

I switched over to Ubuntu and I am running VMware on it right now and inside the VM I am running FC6.

Any way can I know what to look using the command faillog -r, I am not getting any output.
