VMWARE Networking issues
 

Hi all,

I have been tasked with taking over a lab that was set up for a penetration testing training exercise.

I have a VMware GSX Server 3.0 on A dell poweredge 2650 with 4 Windows 2000 Professional/Server virtual Machines configured for bridged networking on a Linux Redhat 9.0 host. The poweredge is connected to a 4/port LInksys Hub. These machines are going to be the target machines for the exercise.

In another area in the lab, I have 3 labtops with Vmware Workstation 2.x with Windows 2000 Pro virtual machines configured on a Redhat 7.X host. Bridged networking is configured. Each of these labtops are plugged into the same 4 port Linksys hub that the poweredge is plugged into. These machines will be used by the attackers.

The ip address of the Redhat 9.0 host on the dell 2650 is 10.0.1.21. We created this class A address for the host, because we did not want it to be able to be attacked during this training exercise. All of the virutal machines on the del 2650 have ip address in the range of 192.168.1.1/24. The virutal machines on the del 2650 can communicate to each other.

The ip address of the Linux 7.x hosts on the labtop and virtual 2k machines on labtop all have ip address in the range of 192.168.1.1/24. The virtual OS and host OS can communicate to each other on the labtop.

The problem I have is that none of the host/virtual boxes on labtop and communicate to virtual machines on dell 2650 or vice versus. I have green lights on my hubs, so I don't know what the problem is?

best way to figure it out sniff the network from one of the clients.
then ping each other to see where the problem is.
