You can set up ns2, or just connect more than one machine to a switch.

You don't give details (like if you want VLAN's, how many hosts, etc.), so it's hard to say what the "right way" is.

OK, well VMware isn't a "tool" by any means. you can go install vmware server if you wish, and that will allow you to run a virtual machine on your server. Nothing intereseting required really, just next, next, next, finish and you'll probably have just what you're after. You might have better luck using KVM if you're running a distro which has it as standard, but you'll get the same out of it for your ends. You don't really need to know abuo0t networking for this, you'll get DHCP on an internal bridge and between the two boxes things should just work, firewall rules aside that is.

Where can I find the this internal bridge?

What is difference between:
- VMware Workstation
- VMware Server
- VMware ESX

Which should I use? why?

KVM is a virtualization platform. VMware server is a virtualization platform, they will provide you with the same thing. KVM is standard within many distributions no though, no need to download a third party package.

The difference between these vmware products are clearly defined on vmware's site, but that doesn't matter here. Just pick server if you want to use vmware

internal bridge - That question doesn't make sense. Why are you asking questions about things you have no tangible knowledge of? Wait until it's a real issue that you can see in front of you instead of guessing about what things you might need to ask.

Ok, then load VMware or virtualbox, and run several virtual-machines on one physical system. That's it.

You load it. You then build virtual machines in it, and run them. They look, feel, and act like OTHER machines. You can also look up descriptions on Google.

With all due respect, why do you care how it works??? Surely, for now, you just care *that* it works.

You seem to know what you want, we've told you how to achieve it, but you seem to be fighting all the advice you're given.. very strange.

Only, things getting done is exact goal for some people but not for me. I think if you know how these things works, you can troubleshoot easily. If my expectation is wrong then please tell me; I will change it.

Again, you've said what you want at the start, we've told you how to achieve that.

We have told you: Google for it. You can find any/all information on the programs, along with documentation, and source code. Don't know how much more "how it works" we can direct you to.
