Question View DHCP clients?

For some reason, I can't find any info on this on Google or here.

I have a Linux (Mandrake) 2.4.18 server that runs DHCPd and gives out IP addresses to some Windows XP DHCP clients.

My old hardware router, used to give a nice HTML formatted, DHCP clients table of MAC address, NETBIOS name of the system, and IP address.

There MUST be a record somewhere of what IP addresses are given to what client. I just can't seem to find it.

You might see the information which you are after by running the command:
cat /var/log/messages | grep DHCPACK

You could also check in /var/lib/dhcp/dhcpd.leases but I'm not entirely sure about that one.

at you can find a perl script that allows you to tell what IPs have been given.

This script will only work when you are using the open source ISC dhcpd daemon from If you are using linux, chances are very big you are using this ISC server.

Yes I am running dhcpd. And that .leases file sounds familiar... Thanks for the help, guys.
