Very strange problem with 56K modem line

For a few days now I can't get online in the day. KPPP logs show lots of random letters right after it shows the dial number. Sometimes it connects but websites time out. However at night(2am) it works and has for 2 days in a row. I think its dirty lines after a storm we had but why would it clear up at night?
