I cannot seem to get a damn DNS Server for this Verizon DSL, even in winblows when I do ipconfig /all it doesnt give me a DNS. I am trying to run slax, the live slackware distro because I cannot touch the partitions on the drive. I use roaring penguin all I need is to figure out what the dns address anyone have any ideas???

sovietpower: Is your DSL modem connected directly to your NIC or are you using a DSL/Cable router? In windows, are your TCP/IP properties set to obtain DNS automatically?

If you are manually assigning your IP address behind a router, you probably need to manually assign the DNS settings, too. Under linux with DHCP obtaining the IP address, the DNS addresses should be detected automatically.

I’ve been using Verizon DSL behind DSL routers for over a year with various linux and windows (98/NT/XP) systems without any DNS problems. My Verizon primary and secondary DNS addresses are 151.198.0.38 and 151.197.0.38.
