UW IMAP on Slackware 9.1 duplicating messages
Hello
I have recently installed Slackware 9.1, which I'm using with fetchmail (getting mail from my isp via pop3) and the default imapd server (UW, I think) serving the messages from /var/spool/mail. However, a couple of times, and I think it is after a reboot, I am effectively getting every message in my inbox duplicated, with one of the duplicates being marked as unread. Any ideas why this might be happening? Thanks David |
I think you should studie up on "pop3", and look at your fetchmail flags. What flags are you sending when using fetchmail? also check your /etc/fetchmailrc.

Yes, I'm reading up on fetchmail now.
I'm using this kind of thing: poll pop.myisp.com uidl proto pop3 user "myid" with pass "mypassword" is "mylocalid" here keep mda "/usr/bin/procmail -d %T" I want to keep the messages on the server (so my Windows e-mail client is also up-to-date if I need it to be), but it seems that the "keep" and "uidl" directives do not remember their states between reboots. Thanks |
I've just spotted the .fetchids file. When I started fetchmail last week, I did so by running the rc.fetchmail as root after the machine had booted and I had logged in. I think the fetchids file was then put in /root/.fetchids.
Yesterday when I rebooted and fetchmail came up automatically at boot, it seems to have put the fetchids in /.fetchids. That would explain why it didn't keep its state. If I reboot again, I'll be able to test this, unless someone can confirm that this kind of behaviour is to be expected? |
