Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide

I use Thunderbird (release 1.0) as my e-mail application. Running Fedora2.
I have a personal domain, WRLee.com, hosted by ipowerweb.com. I use the mail server there for incoming and outgoing e-mail. They have it configured so that I can use their mail server for outgoing mail wherever I am currently attached to the 'net. (I travel quite a bit and use wireless access from many places.) My local ISP only allows me to send using their server when I am physically attached to their modem pool.
However, in order to use the server to send e-mail, I musr first retrieve e-mail in order to establish who I am using my UserID and password, and then the "right" to send e-mail lasts only a few minutes. Then I have to re-establish that "right" by once again retrieveing mail (i.e., re-sending my userID and password).
Is there any way I can configure Thunderbird so that it automatically connects to the mail server with UserID and password when it is SENDing, just as it does when RECEIVing?

Here's what my webserver provider said on the issue:
iPowerweb email is configured to authenticate using POP rather than SMTP. This means that our server verifies who you are based on the incoming mail server, your username, and password. When you check incoming mail, the server opens a gateway of 20 mins where it will allow you to send your mail out to your intended recipients. Should the 20 minutes pass, the server no longer recognizes who you are and will need to verify security again using the incoming mail server.
The issue starts when email clients (such as Outlook) have an option set to send messages immediately. When you send a message immediately, your email program skips the authentication (verification) process and tries to send without receiving. If this happens after the 20 minute gateway closes, the server gets stuck because it has no idea which user is sending this email. It then stops, and says (not literally), "I do not know you, therefore I will not let your mail through".
Basically, "553, Sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts" means that the server is not recognizing you.
This was then followed by lengthy instructions on how to do this with Microsoft products.
What I am looking for is a way to do this with Thunderbird.
