I have a usb to usb bridge and as far as I know, they are only made for transfering files from one pc to the next.

If you are useing cable internet then your modem should have at least two ports to plug a box into. couldnt you just get some network cable and hardwire ubunto?

Yes,
it will really make ur work easy if u got urself a LAN card n connect using cross cables. you will not need a swith/hub; the computer connected to the net (assuming u need a LAN card to access broadband there) will have 2 LAN cards and the other one will have 1. u can then use some proxy software for accessing net.
Frankly, i have not used usb-usb, so cant comment abt that..
