I recently installed SuSE 9.0 on the machine that is now a dual boot with XP and SuSE. The NIC I am using is HP USB Nic. This computer is connected to the Internet through broadband Cable. The problem I seem to be having is that when I boot up, DHCP doesnt get the IP address and thus I cant get online. However, I can get it to work by opening Konsole and then logging on as a SU, I type in DHCPCD and starting it manually. It seems to work fine after that untill I reboot again. I have to do this everytime I boot up. I dont know why this is happening. Does it have anything to do with the fact that I have a USB Nic? or is it SuSE 9.0 specific? I used to SuSE 9.1 LIve CD and also Knoppix Live CD just to see if I get the same problem but I dont and DHCP seems to run fine.
Any suggestions? I am very new to Linux and I dont know what I can do. I tried to do the fixed IP in Yast NIC option but that didnt work either. I have no problem with XP either so I am open to all suggestions and will appreciate everyones help.
Thanx
The script just does what you do manually in the command line.
Save it to a text file, give it exec permission, own it to root/root and save it to /etc/init.d
Then, open yast2, go to System > runlevel editor and choose expert mode.
YouŽll see your script there! Just tick the box to run the script in the runlevel 3 and 5 and save it. Reboot and see if the boot process runs your script and if it grabs an IP ok.
