USB Modems etc. (CDCEther) in newer kernel versions

Hi,

I have a Debian machine on which i connect to the internet using a USB cable modem (a motorola surfboard SB4200). With the original kernel (2.2.20) the modem worked perfectly using the CDCEther driver.

Recently i upgraded the kernel to 2.4.72, intending still to use this modem using the CDCEther driver. When i came to select this module when configuring the kernel i found it no longer existed!!

Has it been removed from the kernel tree? If so is there a patch available to add it back in?

I am aware this modem also has a ethernet port, but for space reasons, I am reluctant to use this interface.
Thank you,
Fergus Noble
