Upgrading a mail server

my old mail server was a FC2 machine with the default imap server and MTA (uw-imap and sendmail)
that harddisk crashed, now im going to install debian on the new machine along with cyrus and postfix
my question is will the the old mail that was on /var/spool/mail still be read by the new debian configuration?

Yes, /var/spool/mail is the default mail ocation for sendmail and postfix. Why you would want to go to postfix though is beyond me. Postfix is ok for small, low volume mail servers but administering it is a nightmare. Sendmail is well supported, scales well and fast. The security is, as far as I am concerned, a none issue (IMHO postfix is no more or less secure than sendmail).
