Unable to ping my linux host from windows box

I am able to ping my linux box using ip address from windows box. But I am not able to ping using hostname.

One more question.
I need to set the network speed and duplex. Please advise.

I seem to recall you need a HOSTS file in your C:\windows directory; Microsoft has a file called HOSTS.SAM which is an example file. Copy HOSTS.SAM to HOSTS (whichever directory it is in) and then edit the file and add your Linux box IP address and host name.

As far as your second question goes, poke around your Network Properties; there will probably be options for setting duplex etc.

The hosts file on windows is normally:
C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
OR
C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

depending on your version of Windows.
