i have started wvdial and able to ping all ips but not able to open any page in the browser

Same here, so this doesn't look like a name resolution problem.
May be this is related to some Firefox setting then. Did you try another internet browser (seamonkey, konqueror, opera, galeon, links, lynx, epiphany, whatever)?
