Unhappy unable to install network interfaces


hi all,

/etc/network# cat interfaces
# /etc/network/interfaces -- configuration file for ifup(8), ifdown(8)

# The loopback interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 10.1.1.6
netmask 255.255.255.248
network 10.1.1.0

but this interface is not installed at boot !!!

BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1

when i start networking i got this error :
/etc/network# /etc/init.d/networking start
Setting up IP spoofing protection: rp_filter.
Configuring network interfaces: /etc/network/interfaces: option without interface
done.

is anybody could help me ?

Do you have the correct modules loaded for your NIC?
which distro are you using?

distrib debian woody
kernel 2.4.20

do i need to have the modules ? and where ?

Can you show us the output of lsmod and give us the type of NIC that you have. At least this way we will know if the correct modules are loaded.

I don't know Debian that well, but I am sure once we get the module loaded that getting networking set up will be a sinch.
