Unable to connect to the internet

I have a wired ethernet connection on my LAN. All my computers can access the internet no problem. My HP DV6 laptop is giving me strange problems.

sda1- Windows 7 - access to the internet works fine
sda5 - Crunchbang 11 access to the internet does not work
sda6 - Linux Lite 2.0 access to the internet does not work

At the moment I am connecting to the internet by using Puppy Linux 5.2.8 from my boot CD. When I used the connection tool that comes with Puppy. I could connect.

How can I connect when I am logged into Crunchbang and Linux Lite? They used to work fine so I am at a loss as to what to do next.

What does:
$ifconfig
and
$route -n

Look like when you run them?

well there is your problem. Your network interface has no IP and you do not have a default gateway set...
You need to configure your network interface.

That's strange because I never had to do this before. Why would this affect crunchbang and Linux lite and not windows 7 and puppy Linux? Seems strange to me.

How do I go about setting up my network access? My network was set up for DHCP like my other computers. I can try to set that up again but is there anything else I need to do?

Thanks!!!!!

Maybe you ran out of dhcp leases.. Check your dhcp server. In most distros the network config is in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
