Currently running Fedora 7 and Firefox 2. I am unable to connect to any site pages that require SSL, for example gmail or another site that has a secure login page. SSL 3 is enabled for Firefox and no firewalls are running on the linux box. I can access these sites just fine on the Windows box. Any suggestions?

And SSL 2? (By default it ain't, which is good)

Please turn it back on. If you think there's a problem with the fw don't shut it down but add logging rules instead.
