Unable To Connect To Internet On Backtrack3

Hi All,

I'm a newbie to linux. Just got a live cd distro of Backtrack3 - The pen testing suite. So, obviously first thing i wanted to do was conect to the internet. But sadly i was unable to find a solution on my own.

here are the details:

i am using a D-link 502T ADSL2+ broadband router to connect to the internet. The connection works fine in my WinXP box. Connectivity b/w the modem and the PC is ok. i'm able to login in into the broadband router's admin panel (proves that connectivity is ok). Also i am connecting the modem to my pc via ethernet card.

Any help will be highly appreciated. Please ask for any more details if u require..

Thanx a millions. i'm sure guy's here will help. Linux-Users are amazingly helpful and patient. (as noticed)

Well, guy's got my internet working all by myself, no need to continue on this thread but now i have a new question out of this problem:

i connected to internet by dhclient eth0 command then pppoe-setup wizard.

can anyone please explain me that dhclient eth0 command brought the link between the modem and my pc down, even after that i'm able to connect to internet.

i am new to Linux. and will not give up till i get a good command over it.

Please correct me if i'm wrong anywhere.

(Posting from my Linux Box, Happy to do that)

Can you give us some idea of how you're network is configured? It seems like you have a linux box, a windows box, and a router with a dhcp server -- what are your IPs, etc.?

Well, Here it goes....

I have only ONE PC connected to my broadband router (the D-link modem) via ethernet cable. which in turn is connected to phone line. my ip's areas follows:

Default Gateway IP: 192.168.1.1
My IP: 192.168.1.2
Subnet: 24

Network Interface: eth0

and as i said i am running a Live Backtrack CD on my windows box.
