Ubuntu/Samba Docs for VERY Newbie

I'm very new at Linux and am wanting to learn it for a very specific purpose. I need to set up a file server (without using Windows software) to run on a network at a school that has about 40-50 all windows systems and currently no server (all peer to peer). Does anyone know of any good documentation to help me get started learning to turn my Ubuntu into a server? Does Ubuntu have a GUI interface for this?

samba

open synaptic and look for a package called 'samba-docs' or bash #apt-get install samba-docs. there are two major books in there that sell for a lofty price in a store. in particular look into 'samba by example'. it should answer all your questions.
