I am trying to log into my Linux box FROM my WinXP Home box. I am having no problem going from the Linux to XP. But the XP prompts me for username and passwords but nothing i've tried seems to work. I've tried every user on my Linux box. When I set my Linux folders to share, it asked me if I wanted to use Samba and i said yes...but It didn't ask me anything else. I'm guessing there's something else I have to do in order to get into the Linux from windows. I've been told I have to set up a Samba server, but I don't even know where to start.

First you need to make sure you have the samba server installed, then you need to edit the /etc/samba/smb.conf file to reflect the settings you want. Then you reload the server and test it out.
