Ubuntu 9.10 Motorola Cable Modem issue
Hi, I have a motorola cable modem (SBV5120) which is connected via ethernet.
My internet works just fine on Windows 7. I tried to make it work on Ubuntu and I manually inserted the IP address, Netmask and Gateway. On Ubuntu it says that I am connected (the littile icon on the top-right corner) but my internet doesn't work. I read lots of topics about modems (and getting them to work with Ubuntu), but I haven't found anything helpful. Is there a change that I can solve this problem ? I really need help. Please post if you know anything that you think is helpful. PS : Ubuntu is installed under Windows 7. |
Did your internet provider give you a static address or tell you to use dhcp? ... also, when you say it worked fine on Windows 7, do you have 2 machines or did you reinstall ? If you have 2 machines you may need to switch the cable modem off then on so that it recognises mac address of the linux host.

I am also facing the same problem. Here I don't have two machines, I have single machine with dual boot. When I boot into Ubuntu, PC/Activity LED will be off where as when I boot into Windows, It is on and everything will work.
My ISP has not provided any static IP. I am using DHCP for getting IP. It was working in with ubuntu 7.*. Please help us to solve this problem. |
