Ubuntu 8.10 doesn't detect Wireless network

Compact desktop running Vista. No problem with vista seeing wireless network. Installed Ubuntu 8.10 but it doesn't detect the network. Belkin Router using usb adapters on computers in network.
Have one little netbook running Limpus Lite in the network that works great. It must have a wireless card. Should I get a wireless card for the desktop? I used the networkmanager function to no avail

Thanks

first find out which networkcard is used
Code:
lspci
then look for a driver for the networkcard.
or use google
Code:
ubuntu + your networkcard

What kind?
Many wireless network interfaces don't work in Linux because of proprietary issues, like the need to install drivers, and/or firmware.
