I have two ethernet cards, but one seems to not be working very well, (it works fine, then stops for a few minutes)
How do i enable my second one (eth1). ifconfig doesnt display it, and im not sure if it was even detected. It was a Ne200 pci or something.
see if that works... if it does, then to make the changes permanent you just need to edit the configuration, but it's different from distro to distro... what distro are you using?
Debian with a new kernel (2.6.0-test11)

ifconfig eth1 (my network card that i want to switch to)
ifconfig eth1

I have two PCI ethernet cards, how do i switch to the new one, and this may be coincidental, but i compiled a new kernel a few weeks ago (test 9 i think) and have been upgrading on ever release, but the network card seemed to have trouble after that.
it sounds to me like the module for the nic isn't loaded or something... or did you compile it into the kernel? you're sure the hardware isn't faulty, right?
this might also be an issue related to the fact it's a 2.6 kernel... i'm not sure about "testing" and "unstable", but i don't think "stable" (woody) would be very happy with a 2.6... but as i said, i'm not sure... what version of debian are you running?
i'd say boot a slackware-live cd (small, no installation needed, and it automagically sets-up your hardware) to be sure the card works, and if it does, you'll know exactly what module is used for it (unless the 2.4 and 2.6 modules are different or something)...
if you just wanna get rid of the card and use the other one, you could always remove the card physically or de-activate it in the bios (if it's onboard)...
i'd use slackware-live as a stethoscope first, just to make sure everything is okay physically, and to gain some logical insight...
right, yah debian unstable, and im not sure if eth0 is broken, i think it is, that is why im switching cards. But ill try the slack live CD, actually, i have knoppix live cd, so ill use that
and i have ne2k_pci and ne as modules, for my other card (eth0) a RealTek RTL-8029
