tun interface does not exist in slackware 10.1 with kernel 2.6.11.10

hi all,

i seem to be having dificulty with the tun interfaces on my box.

I am attempting to make use of openvpn however it fails saying it cannot find the tun device /dev/net/tun. I have attempted to create this manually but it still fails to run and gives the same error.

the tun driver is compiled in to the kernel but the devices still dont exist.
Is there a specific way these devices need to come up or be created? i know /dev is supposed to be created by the udev system but it does not seem to create them when they are called for.

i am running slackware 10.1 with kernel 2.6.11.10 and openvpn 2.0

Configure your kernel for TUN/TAP and/or load module
