Trying to setup up SSH

I am trying to set up a Secure FTP server on an old PC running Mandrake Linux.

My intent is pretty simple, set up a small ftp site where I, my girlfriend and a few other friends can share files. I have had quite soem trouble figuring out how to set the thing up but I have made progress with the help of this board. The full history of my issue is here in Linux Newbie.

Currently, I have determined that SSH is running on my Linux box. I downloaded PuttySSH & CoreFTPLite on my windows PC and since I have a dynamic IP address, I also have DynDNS running.

If I try to connect through my DYNDNS domain, I get a 'connection refused' error. The same error occurs when I use the routers IP address but it does work with the internal IP address of the network.

I tested both PuttyFTP and CoreFTP with DYNDNS, IP address and internal IP address. Neither software can connect with the DYNDNS domain.

What am I doing wrong?

Have you configured the router to foward port 22 to the IP address of the server?

Yes I have.

I'm using Netgear RP614.
I have forwarded port 22 for FTP.
My router also has a Dynamic DNS settings page where I can specify DYNDNS as the service and my hostname. I did that also.

I went back to read your other thread. Its bad practice to start more then one thread on the same topic.

Does pinging the dyndns domain resolve to your actual routers WAN IP address?

What happens when you try to ping your routers WAN IP address?

I will make a note of it in the future.

Pinging the dyndns & router WAN address both work with no problem.

Is your SSH server using a static IP or DHCP?

So is server the only PC on the network. Is it being assigned the same IP address all the time?

No I have two other PC's. The Dyndns domain points to the router's DHCP address. In my home network, each PC has it's own address (192.168.x.x) that does not change.
