trying to get access to my x window


hello there

i have connect my window xp desktop to my fedora core 2 laptop by using ssh, i can play music by using cdplay it works. but now i want to start xmms ** CRITICAL **: unable to open display

the software i am using is putty

Because when you connect to a system via ssh, you have been connected under virtual terminal as a new user. And you cannot start any X-Window application unless you have virtual terminal only. If you want to use your X-Window system remotely, you need to use VNC application.

i know i could connect by ssh -X, this mean activate x server, but as u see i am using putty there is no option (-X)

Because your are using Windows Xp to connect to Linux. If you connect to your Linux from another Linux you can use X-Windows feature as well...

You might want to try Cygwin...i believe it has a X windows system that will allow you to log into your laptop.
