Do you have samba running on the Linux box?
Is smbd and nmbd running?
Code:
ps ax | grep smbd
Do you have a share specified on the Linux box?
Samba is configured in your smb.conf file.
You need to have samba up and running.

Do a search on LQ for samba, smb.conf

This will get you up and running, modify as you will.
Your smb.conf file will be at different locations depending on what flavor of Linux that you are using.

Code:
[global]
workgroup=HOME
netbios name=lannut2
security=user
guest account = fred

[share]
path = /home/lannut2/share
available = yes
browsable = yes
public = yes
writable = yes
