Trouble using Internet with router

Network Adapter: Intel(R) Pro/100 VE Network Connection Connection

Router: 2Wire 1701HG Gateway (modem and router)

ISP: Yahoo! SBC DSL

I have read many documents over and over. On windows my connection is detected automatically (DHCP). I can't seem to get a network connection with linux though. I don't know what to do. Has anyone had any luck with the same router/ISP? They don't seem to work with linux according to what they say. Please help. Thanks

Have you tried assigning your Linux machine a static IP address with the same network scheme as the router, and the router as the gateway and DNS server? If your Linux machine isn't getting a DHCP address from the router, this may be a good alternative if you have a small network.

check ifcfg-eth0 using:

cat /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

Here is a sample of mine:

DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=dhcp
NETMASK=255.255.252.0
ONBOOT=yes
METRIC=10
MII_NOT_SUPPORTED=no
NEEDHOSTNAME=yes

check that it's using dhcp and that it is set to ONBOOT=yes

If you need to edit you'll have to be in root...

Then restart network services either by running the script or rebooting:

/etc/init.d/./network restart

Good Luck

KC
