Trouble accessing Windows network

Hello all

I am in the early stages of trying out Linux in our small company. The first stage is getting a machine working as a client on the Windows network and gaining some experience with Linux and its administration. I have got RH9 installed and working without too much trouble, and everything is running OK, I even got my modem installed for out of office dialup, and can access the internet through our gateway and router in the office, which I guess proves the Ethernet card in my laptop is working OK at least.

The trouble comes when I try and access the Windows 2000 servers on our network. I can see the network and the domain in Konqueror, and can access the top level or two of the network shares, but beyond this all the folders just look empty - even ones that contain documents and sub-directories, they're just empty. When I click on anything in Konqueror while it is looking in the folders it crashes with Signal 11.

I am guessing that my problem lies in a configuration file somwhere, but don't really know where to start. I have looked at and changed a few settings in smb.conf such as the Workgroup and WINS server setting, but to no avail.

Any help that anyone can provide would be very gratefully received - eventually I am hoping to persuade the sysadmin to install at least one or two Linux servers, the less problems I have to put to him the better!

Thanks for reading about my problems - I bet you have plenty of your own!
