tree connect failed: ERRDOS -ERRnosuchshare

I keep getting this error when i try to browse the file on a wondows machine from my linux macine. if i use the command

smbclient -L MACHINENAME i can get a positive name query and i can see a list that's available but not for the life of me can i browse it. and the Linux box is not seen in Netwrok neighborhood. I'm pretty sure both machines are in the same work group.

any help at all will be appreciated.

linneighbourhood

what command are you using to browse/ mount shares.?
take care to properly escape the slashes in the share names.
if you've set up smb.conf correctly you'll see your linux machines appear on the browse list.
i can figure out some more if you were more specific.

also do a search for LinNeighbourhood and try to install it. it's pretty easy to use for network browsing etc

i Actually have LinNeighborhood installed, and i can see the shares but i can't browse them

i can ping the windows machines but they aren't aware that the linux box is here. i'm not sure at all if my smb.conf file is right.

i'm using redhat 7.2 and one box is running win 2000 professional and one is running win 98.
