Question transparent squid proxy server


can any one tell me the procedure of tranparent proxy

i configured the transparent proxy and my client mechines are working well
but a problem i am facing is that i must enter the gateway and dns on every mechine .i heared from some one if u installed the transperant proxy then there is no need to setting from client side. but this is worng i think
if this is true then send me the detail procedure .may be i wrong
plz reply me as soon as possible

Hi,
You should set the gateway and dns on every client regardless of your proxy setting.
But if you do not use transparent proxy then you should set your proxy setting in each box in addition to dns & gateway.

dhcp is an automatic way of setting dns, gateway and much more..
You can assign static numbers too so they always get the same ip number..

I'll move this to the Networking Forum..

I think what he means is that the transparent proxy directions he read told him to set the client machines gateway to be the transparent proxies IP address instead of the real network gateway address. I have come across the same directions and it shouldn't have to be like that.

It will if they are different pcs on the same subnet as the clients, otherwise there will be a massive routing/snat/dnat mess when the firewall redirects them..
Usually the proxy is the gateway to find the router/firewall .. or is the next box the gateway passes traffic to ..
