traffic control experiment

hey

im doing some work on the linux traffic control system, how it proforms etc..

i want to set up an experiment with 2or3 pcs networked via a redhat machine running as a router with one of the nodes fireing off traffic to increase the network load, then run a file transfer, for example, between the other two pc's and mointor jitter delay etc.. on the router and how the different queing mechanisms effect proformance.

at the moment im having trouble getting the redhat box to act as a router. all the nodes have 192.168.231.x address's and the routing table seems fine, is there anything im missing? would it be better to have the nodes on a different subnet?

any advice would be great

ta.

You should avoid posting the same question in more than one place, although this isn't exactly the same question as your other thread - http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=156359 - it's pretty close.

I would suggest you have a read of http://lartc.org to find out about traffic shaping/control. It gets rather 'deep' in places though, so if you are new to Linux it may take a fair bit of reading!

cheers

Ah, right.

Which aspect did you want the opinions on? Which control methods to use, and what peoples experience of them has been?

cheers
